Dr. Dunning serves as Professor of Practice Management at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, College of Dentistry, Department of Oral Biology. He has taught and conducted research for 30 years in the areas of patient-provider communication and practice management. He earned his MA and PhD in organizational communication in the Department of Communication Studies, University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. Dunning has published peer-reviewed research as a lead or co-author in 18 different professional journals. He is the lead editor of a textbook, Dental Practice Transition: A Practical Guide to Management. Dr. Dunning serves on the editorial board of Health Communication and a guest editor for other journals. Dr. Dunning has served for many years in a variety of leadership positions: department vice-chair, faculty senate president, board member and board chair in faith-based non-profit organizations, faculty advisor for a student organization and an officer in the Practice Management Section of the American Dental Education Association, including six years as Section Councilor. Dr. Dunning has maintained a part-time consulting business for over many years: giving speeches, conducting workshops, providing management consulting and developing curriculum. He is a member of the American Dental Education Association, the National Communication Association and Omicron Kappa Upsilon, the honorary dental society. Dr. Dunning and his wife, Kathy, are blessed with two sons, Salem and Jed, daughter-in-law, Brandi, and granddaughters, Sariah and Scarlett.
